Before Victoria's Secret were seducing us with the most exciting line of undergarments, undergarments were (quite frankly) more exciting. They were more complex and intricate: Frills, laces, embroidery and boning were all common place; garters were necessary; nothing stretched or gave out, but rather the intent was to form the woman to the underwear.
